What made you sell the Golf.

The car was 3.5 yrs old and the oldest/longest I've ever kept a car in the last 12 yrs. Normally I replace my car every year, so you can see the ED30 was an exceptional car for me to keep it that long. I felt like a change and once I get the urge there's no stopping me.

Is this what you've bought:
http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/248854/lexus_is_fsport_road_test_review.html

Is yours a Diesel or Petrol? Manual or Auto? I drove a manual diesel IS a couple of hundred miles once and didn't get along with it.

I'm surprised you've gone into something like this after having a modded ED30. I'm interested why you went for something like the Lexus - it's a big change!

I've just gone from an Audi TT to an old Freelander as my daily driver (my gf uses the GTI daily) as I fancied having a battle wagon for a while.

That is the one.

The report doesn't suprise me as BMW et al spend loads on advertising with EVO and Lexus don't.

The ride is very comfortable - even at low speed and it soaks up the bumps and potholes here in "pothole city" of Sheffield very well. The build quality is second to none, the customer service is legendarily good and it has every conceivable extra you could ever want in a car, the petrol consumption is better than my ED30 was too. The V6 could do with a little more oomph (0-62mph in 8.1 seconds) and the 3.5ltr that the Americans get would have been a no brainer for me if it was available over here (300+bhp). The car does everything I want from it for a daily driver, especially as it isn't going to be my weekend toy  The MIL (who I ferry about on a regular basis) gave it her seal of approval, and she is a 5 stone 11lb, 72yr old and feels EVERY little bump in the road. The wife loves it too. I like the car too, but whether I keep it as long as the ED30 - well that is another story

BMW et al may spend loads on advertising, but it has nothing to do with EVO - it is Dennis Publishing who get paid and therefore decide who's products get advertised in the mag. Quick flick through this month and there is Lamborghini, Toyota, Honda, Alfa, Audi, Jaguar, Seat, Mercedes, Nissan, Volvo, Mazda, and of course BMW.

EVO also ran an IS-F on their Fast Fleet for over 12 months and loved it. Added to that the fact that the IS-F earned a place in EVO Car of the year 2008 and in comparison to the M3, i quote:

"It's pace and size could make the IS-F intimidating but it actually gives up its performance much more easily than an M3. The steering is direct but the chassis never feels edgy so you don't feel like you're going to upset it."

Based on the above i would have to challenge the comment implying that EVO write biased reviews based on who/who doesn't spend money advertising with them

Horses for courses. I liked the style, drive and quality of the car and have driven my mates BMW 335d for comparison. There is no comparison in terms of power as the BMW was clearly the winner, but in terms of ride quality, handling, general build quality etc there was very little in it. The BMW steering had slightly more feel, but I put that down to the heavier feel of the wheel - the steering is quite light on the Lexus, which I liked more than the heavier feel of the BMW. Similarly the damping and suspension felt very similar indeed. It is no secret that Lexus picked apart more than a few BMW's when setting the suspension for the IS. Maybe I'm a little cynical when it comes to journalism and even car journalism, but the fact that a BMW 3 series gets 5 stars and a Lexus IS gets 2 stars, when there is realistically very little inbetween them (and in some cases the Lexus is better IMHO) then what other judgement is there to be made?
