HAPPY DAYS cutting out problem solved!!!!!! Mk3

as some of u know been having loads of problems with my golf randomnly cutting out,changed the crank sensor and coil pack etcetcetc...Finally gave in and took it to a VW specialist,think he already knew what the problem was before he put it on the vagcom but dodgy solder!!!!!!!!!!Anyway it was the power supply relay to the ECU,solder goes hard and breaks up killing the power supply to the ECU.I take my hat off to them,seems to be problem solved(fingers crossed).£72 total bill.

I had this problem and the best think todo is getting it on vagcom to see if it throws up any errors.

Will save you alot of time and cost

And the best way to do that without going in to a garage is buy Vagcom off ebay ... its a USB Cable with a CD-ROM ... so all you need is to use your own, or borrow a friends laptop and you can read/delete codes.

Same sort of thing i could have it running on my driveway for 10 mins then cut out and not restart untill it had cooled or it could cut out on the motorway!!!!! i replaced my ecu relay and fuel pump relay but didnt help. The best thing to do is put it on a vagcom, it was the power supply relay to the ecu the bloke said it happens a lot because the soldered joints break up. Im a mechanical fitter but not too good with electrics!!!!!

Should be under a tenner ... really worth having. Ill be buying it soon to delete some ABS codes and find out which sensors have gone rather than coughing up £25+ at a garage.

ive had it put on a computer and nothins shown up ? that sounds exactly the same as what mines doin, ive replaced crank sensor, fuel pump relay, ecu relay, coil and all the oil and coolant sensors and its still doin it, where is the ecu power supply relay 2

glad you got it sorted, will have to have a look at mine cos its started to cut out sometimes
