VR6 into mk2 gti
« on: 21 January 2005, 19:57 »
Theres a VR6 engine on ebay for ?100 in need of a bottom end re-build, i would like to know how much works involved in fitting one to a mk2 , does the added weight hugely affect the handling , and also how much are G60 engines selling for currently ? thanks in advance Stu

not too bad, you'll need a set of vibratechnics engine mounts, a set of mk3 or corrado clocks, the pedal box, wiring loom, gear box, upgraded brakes to 280mm or even better 288 from a vr6, upgraded suspension to cope with the extra power and weight and a few other bits and pieces. the added weight does apparently affect the handleing but not too bad, just makes the back end abit lighter but can be rectified with some clever spring work.
g60's seem to go for upwards of a grand and have got to be easier to install as they are just a digifant with a blower (essentially).
also bear in mind, a bottom end rebuild won't be the cheapest thing to do.
team grumpy....... its a way of life, not a forum post
