I had Dunlop SPs on my last car and they were very good at protecting my rims - not sure how they faired in the AE test though?

The last set of Michelins I had didn't last me more than 10k miles whereas the Dunlops used to do 30k + per set (albeit on a Quattro)

Sorry I forgot to ask in my previous post...what sort of mileage/wear are you getting on your current tyres and what make/type are they?

thanks

I've got Bridgestones which came as original fitting with the car.
Done only 2300 miles so far.
Dunlops came out quite well. Quietest tyre. Not so good on the aquaplaning tests.
12 tyres tested, 225/40 R18 Y rated on a Scoda Octavia VRS.

                                                         Overall Score
1. Continental  ContiSport Contact 3        100.0
2. Michelin Pilot Sport 3                           99.4
3. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric            99.2
4. DunlopSP Sport Maxx TT                      99.1

9 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A                 97.5

I have also found out that there are a variety of Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres.
There is a specific R050A for VW and is more expensive than the Michelins or Continentals. It is specifically designed for low noise. Most confusing, as there is a range of RE050As from £116.33 to £151.68 each and fitted (Prices from Blackcircles). The £151.68 one is specifically for VW.

Thanks am1w

The current alloys have the Bridgestone Potenzas on. I'll see what tyres on the Vancouvers when I get them

Quick question for those with Continentals.

Are they still made in Germany?
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

So far on my Mk 6 I have had the Dunlops (very good), the Michy PS3's (overrated no better than the Dunlops) and now the Vredestein Sessanta Ultracs and they are excellent, best tyre I have ever had.

Not tested in Autoexpress, so have to take your word for it.

Isn't that what counts? Real world drivers, on their own cars, over 20,000 varied miles in different weather etc? Anyone, like pants, everyone has a favorite and these are mine.
