digi overheating

my digi was standing for a month due to no tax and mot, but with no running issues prior to this. all i done was  pressure wash the engine bay, and next time i started it it overheated,  no signs of headgasket damage so is it likely ive got something a bit too wet,(bearing in mind it was 3 weeks since i cleaned the engine bay)

Check the water level
Check the return feed for faulty water pump
Check your oil level
Check fan switch
Check fan
Check the usual, top/bottom rad pipe for faulty thermostat

How did you determine it was overheating, water temp gauge, or oil temp gauge?

If  boiled over out the expansion cap then it could just be a faulty cap.
Check the o ring is in place on it or get a blue one which are better.

My digifant is overheating as well. It's only been driven about 200 miles since the headgasket was
replaced and I think its on its way again.

I think there may be a block or something in the cooling system causing it.

Can you tell me how you check for a faulty water pump or thermostat?

A litle bit of info that might help.

My digi was NOT overheating but the cooling system was always under significant pressure (e.g. take cap off header tank and stuff rises almost to overflow).

I discovered that the return feed/overflow (small pipe to header tank) was blocked at the rad end. Pushed a fine wire down it and hey presto getting a good stream of water into header tank. To check this - with engine cold take cap off and start engine. Should be stream of water or bubbly water from small pipe into header tank. (Just as RJ Coolant Guide in MK2 Maintenance section - cheers RJ)

hi all sorry for late reply, cars been in garage having mot but not to sort over heating problem.  Right, the temp gauge stays in normal position with the warning light flashing, when i undo header tank cap it bubbles over.  This is all since i pressure washed the engine. im now going too try some of the solutions ben has suggested and ill get back to u. cheers

topped it up took it for a drive, all seemed fine, ran at standstill to see fan kick in.  temp rises to 3/4 no red light,no fan.  water in header tank rising, turned engine off and undone header cap to release pressure, takes 3 litres of water to fill it back up (excluding possible air locks?)   now off to find some wire to test the fan with from the battery as i reckon thats the fault.

it was the fan
