So the handbrake has had a bit too much play in it lately.  Booked it into the garage for it to be readjusted.....

Phone call at lunchtime - both callipers were seized solid.  We've managed to free the passenger side but not the drivers side.  We'll give it another go and let you know but you probably need a new calliper

20 minutes later - 'we've freed calliper and went to bleed the system.  Cracked the bleed nipple to find that's knackered so we can't put it back.  New calliper is needed

Just to rub it in they can't get a new calliper until Tuesday so the car is off the road until then  Gone for a refurb item which is £80 as opposed to £160 for a brand spanker.

Seriously not impressed with the fact the calliper is shagged on a car with 77,000 miles on the clock    I suspect the bloke who changed my rear discs and pads might have damaged it when he bled the system.....

Will need one for the passenger side at some point but that can wait.  And I've still yet to resolve my traction issues.  And I'll be needing front tyres soon

Is this a specialist garage? Anything past a B5 needs to be programmed to allow you to wind the callipers back in if they are the electric park break type. Also, they are twisty turny jobbies, they arent simple but I fail to see how BOTH could have failed.

The entire world is a Money Pit, you just have to pick yours.

No fancy electric brake on mine; just your usual piece of sh!t callipers that corrode. I had the ones on the MK4 stripped and cleaned at one point

Well despite the recent niggles its still quick enough to embarrass a remapped Alfa coupe diesel

Good job the mobile speed camera van was much further down the road  :lipsrsealed:

Soon have a complete matching set

Managed nearly 14k out of the F1's though the fronts spent 12k of those on the rear.........

Looks like I will need to replace the handbrake cables too as its gone back to how it was prior replacing the callipers

Still got the random ESP issue so will be interesting to see if the new tyres will help although I doubt it

I'll be shocked if it is the tyres but hopefully for you it is!

Well my test is to take it around a particular roundabout which prior to the issue I could do at approx 30mph and just get tyre squeel. Then I was unable to drive at over 25mph without the ESP kicking in. With the matching fronts I could acheive the former

Will give it some thorough testing tomorrow

Hmm I see, thought it was kicking in on a straight line though?

The MK4 kicks in on the motorway in 6th in the rain but that's due to sh!t suspension, alignment way out and sh!t bald tyres so I don't blame it.

No.....i said it happened once ina straightish line chasing a VXR. I had about 10degrees of steering lock on but it was at speed

The main issue was with more steering angle at lower speeds
