twit driver hit me!!!

what a thingy!!! i was parked up ready to get out of my car when all of a sudden the van driver infront decided to revese straight into the front of my car








the damage seems to be new headlights (i want a new pair)
new slam panal
new grill
some sort of a repair on the bumper and bonnet.

the question i have is that i have been told to provide an estimate for the repairs, now do i tell them to forget about the bumper and bonnet damage, as i dont want the insurance company writing off the car.

i would have been happy to settle privatly for £300 cash but this guy says the damage is about £200!!!!

Was this originally an 8v? If so, probably best to keep the insurance man away.......

Tell the bloke you will take it through his insurance if he won't stump up the £300. - and point out that he will lose more than this in lost no claims - next year..

Or if your not that way inclined - tell him to sorce & buy the parts and get someone to fit 'em for £200 if he feels thats all it will cost....

At the end of the day it was his fault so dont let the knob get away with it!!!

Just had a quick tot up, that is an £800+ repair, depending on how good the rest of the car is, that could be within insurance limits on what gets repaired, and what doesn't, worth a punt with the insurance company tbh, its your decision whether to proceed at the end of the day, get an estimate done, and take it from there...

i didnt want to involve insurance because im worried about them wanting to write off the vehicle. really only need headlights, grill and slam panal. i can live with the bonnet and bumper as it is. will try get a few quotes tomorrow hopefully they are not too expensive as the women on the phone from insurance company said it may be a write off. computer probably told her that, no real knowledge of anything i bet!!

Your car will only be a write off, if you allow the claim to proceed, you can put the estimate to them, so they inform only, as to whether its beyond economical repair... with Mk2 prices on the increase, and no structural damage evident, they may be in favor to repair, ask about the possibility of a "Contract repair" where they will pay up to an agreed amount, of lets say £800, your chosen repairer, will then submit a "Pro Forma" invoice to the Insurance company, stating that they are able to repair the car for said amount, garage then receive their money after work has been completed, this gets your car repaired, without it being registered as a write off....
