Takes an age for the windows to demist

the heater gets bloody hot but this morning it took at least 15 -20 mins to de mist as i was driving along couldnt see a bloody thing!! now my worry is that we havent even hit any sort of real cold weather yet!!! any suggestions?

does the air only come out of the windscreen vents when selected? it could be that the air's not being channeled properly

Do you have any dampness in the car i.e wet carpets etc? You can get anti fog liquid (fog X I think) that you put on your windows which helps. I also have a dehumidifier bag thing that helps absorb some moisture.

I think it is just coming out the window vents dont think the rear screen works even with the rear heater selected F all happens, pretty much driving blind can only see out the fecking windscreen

Demisters are pretty good in a MKII if it's all in order. I only ever found the rear 1/4 windows stubborn to demist.

Rear heated screen sounds goosed although it may well not even be hooked up as that's not your original boot.

Often the problem with MKII's is the flaps in the box (ooh er) lose all their foam and become a bit useless. I find taking them apart and slapping on extra panels made from icecream boxes and attached with sikaflex does the job.

yeah well i really want to get the new tailgate on asap and hopefully that will work! whats this about flaps in box's on the heater? in the dash

The flaps are in the heater box buried behind the centre console, a bit of a ball ache to get out though. See any of the guides for changing the heater matrix, the same but without pulling the matrix itself out.

check the air is only coming out of the correct vents when selecting the different options. if it's coming out of all at the same time this'll be your culprit.
the flaps can be covered without taking the box out but it's fiddly, and be gentle with the flaps or you could knacker the turning mechanism for them

Worth checking the cogs at the bottom.

Mine must have come off and been put back incorrectly, preventing the direction lever working correctly.
