towbars
« on: 06 September 2010, 21:40 »
Anyone have a towbar fitted?  Any advice?

...before you ask... its to take a bike carrier - much better than a tailgate mounted rack.
I'm looking at a removable one so that it disappears when not in use.  Anyone have any
experience of this?

thanks!

I'm looking for exactly the same reason

Try this company - http://www.pfjones.co.uk/

A guy on vwaudi forums has recommended them - You can get a removable one and then fit something like the Thule 2 or 3 bike which can also be extended to take an additional bike i.e. 3 or 4

Im sure VW do a replacment rear bumper spoiler with a removable panel for the towbar.
(If anyone has an upto date copy of ETKA and could part number this and price it that would be great)

A towbar is something i must look into again as i have a large trailer (taking stuff to the tip, colecting car parts for 50's & 60s classics i have) and a car trailer i would like to use with the mk6.

Thanks for the help - I've already
called  pfjones
but they need me to source the
bumper spoiler, so part number
and cost would be very helpful.

They also mentioned some
recalibration of the electronics
that needs to be done by VW.
Anyone know why this is needed?

The dealer is meant to be getting
back to me with a quote, but I
doubt if it will be very competitive

In the VW Accessories brochure they quote the costs as: -

- detachable towbar - £357.00
- 13-pin electrics - £415.50

So that's £770+

No mention of the cost of the replacement bumper trim etc.

As far as I know there is no modification required to the rear bumper in the MK6 when fitting a towbar, nothing listed in ETKA.
