Hi All,

1. What is the average mpg you are getting from the MK6 GTI on a combined run?  As mentioned I'm generally driving A Roads and will happily average 38MPG+ in the TSI.  So any feedback from anybody doing either Motorway or A Roads would be helpful.

Google found this;

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=86&t=806106&mid=0

we got 35.2 mpg overall average and 47.3 mpg on our 'economical driving' run, with the 6-speed manual Mk 6 GTI

Sounds pretty good.

I'm not getting that, and I think you'd have to be awfully economical to come close.  I'm getting around 30 to 32mpg, but my normal run to work, although on a trunk road, is only 11 miles.

Rolfe.

I regularly do long motorway runs of 100 - 200 miles and see 45mpg cruising at 70-75 mph. I use cruise control a lot.

My GTi is a manual and fed only on Tesco 99 or Shell 99.

I am sure I could top 50mpg at a steady 56mph but don't have the patience.

I used to do the same trips in a MkV GTD 140 and managed 50mpg with that car so very pleased with the GTi.
Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

Agree with Ess_Three especially regarding RNS510 and RCD510 sound quality. The best sound is from the ugly duckling RCD310. I know as I had one. Having said this, my second RNS510* sounds pretty good. They seem a bit variable IMO.
Don't forget the Winter Pack: you get heated seats etc.
ACC is a must.
I get an average of 22mpg with London driving.
All colours are good. White and Red really stand out. Shadow Blue is very, very classy. These 3 colours are my favourite.

That is interesting to hear what you say about the RCD310, shame as I don't think you can get the Dynaudio without the RCD510/RNS510.  The red is also tempting, and I see from your signature it looks great and does stand out.  I've never owned a red car before, so this'd be a new venture!  The Shadow Blue definetly is tempting though.

Interesting on the ACC, as my wife (who is currently 30+ weeks pregnant) was moaning about the lack of comfort on the Demo day.  I'm sure a lot of that is due to her current state, but after some reading up last night it sounds like it might be a good investment.

Thanks Spartacus that sounds really encouraging, especially with direct comparison to your GTD 140.  Are there any pics of your Deep Black 5 Door, I'd like to see one of these in the flesh.

Mine does 56-60 at 60-70mph around london 36-38 mpg but its a GTD, best coluor is white, black, shadow blue, carbon grey!! RNS510 is great with Dyn audio, but the nav gripe it only takes 4 didgit postcode which can be really anyoing at times, er is it worth 1700 quid the computer says no. it does look good at night though!! The best option of all though is DSG by far.

The ACC is a godsend on our broken roads. The front and rear parking sensors are wonderful too. Choose the colour carefully: black, great, hell to keep clean as are all dark colours. Reds and Greys need less cleaning.
All the best.

My run to work on A roads normally gets me 43mpg on A-roads. Traffic doesn't really allow me to get above 55.

I seem to get 410-420 miles from a full tank with a bit left.
Gone GTi | 3dr | Manual | Carbon Grey | Xenons | Monza 18's | RCD 510 |Rear Camera | Winter Pack.

I must have heavier shoes than some of you...

I get about 30 MPG average...but easily down to mid teens on the twisties.
I am looking to fuel around 300 miles, and normally put around 50 litres in.

Hell, I only used to get 40ish MPG out of my Fabia vRS (diesel).

If you really use the GTI, mid 20s is about right...but still noticably better than the Mk5 GTI!

Agreed.
As is the rear camera - vastly underrated.

Grey/Silver for the ease of looking after.
I love white to look at - but after owning a white car, never again.
Same with black.
Red is easy...
Shadow Blue is lovely but can look plain in dull light - stunning in sunlight though.

I was torn between red and silver...but have another GTI in silver, so fancied a change.
Looking now, I think Carbon Grey would get another look...it's superb in the metal.

MPG i have kept a record from day one (and reciepts) and from brim to around 0.5 gallon left each time im getting at first 29mpg and its slowly getting better and the last tankful it averaging 33mpg. Thats 99% commuting into a main city over a congested tyne bridge.

Colour.
Shadow blue is not a popular colour on here with the GTI youth  but i get unexpected nice coments about how good it looks from people in petrol stations or places i visit who see it.
Heres some photos of shadow blue GTI's. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=131897.0
