Best Model TDi
« on: 19 January 2005, 16:52 »
Hi, Been looking into TDi and the fuel economy is really good and after adding up my finances a GTi is really out of the question in terms of fuel and insurance, so was thinking of getting a TDi but adding a few mods to make it look more sporty.
Such as GTi alloys, Crystal front bumper lights, side repeaters, GTi seats (not leather), smoked rear lights and bilstein suspension. Buying used will add up to no more than ?500
Will probably get a dark colour - blue/Purple/black
What other bits could i add to make it look more sporty, I will probably buy used parts from GTi's that are being broken for parts, do the GTi brakes and suspension fit TDi's or is totally different setup?
Thanks for your help,
Craig

Other than the items you have suggested you could add an early VR6 deep chin spoiler.  Lots going on ebay for ?25ish - might be a bit flimsy.  Probably ?30 - 50 for a nice sturdy new one from VW.

GTI roof spoiler?  Some TDis might have one already.

As for alloys, if you want to stay with original vw wheels, 15" BBS Solitudes from VR6 Highlines and GTI Colour concepts are classy looking and sell for not much more than normal GTi wheels.

Only trouble you might have is most non GTI/VR6 golfs have 4 stud wheels - the GTIs + VR6 have 5 studs.  Check the TDI.

If it's 4 stud all is not lost as BBS Solitudes and RXIIs were both found on late Cabriolets as 4 stud wheels.  Just might be a bit tricky to track down a set.

A VR6 isn't a way of life, it's just a car.

Hi, them front spoilers look like good cheap mod? When people fit them do they colour code them? have you got a pic with a Golf fitted with thr front spoiler?

Thanks for info on wheels, but a pain if they are 4 stud
I do like the 10 spoke GTi alloys like these

Not many people colour code the front spoiler.  If you get a deep one they can be prone to scraps and stone chips, so would probably look tatty in no time if it was painted.

bit lazy, still using ebay but here's a blue VR6 with a deep front spoiler and bbs solitudes

If you want some 10 spoke GTI alloys, I've got some going for sale?? 2 tyres are virtually new and the other 2 are pretty much illegal.

Let me know if you fancy them, I'll try and post some pics, they are in pretty good nick.

On the other mods front, if you get a GL TDI, I you should have spoiler, it will be colour coded too.  They are reasonably quick too. 110bhp.
