Removing k-jet, what too keep etc.
« on: 31 August 2010, 17:40 »
what do i remove when swapping to my megasquirt system, which is just being fuelled by abf items, abf fuel rail and regulator.

On the k-jet it has what look likes two primaries to the metering head then from there theres 7 pipes, 5 going to injectors then another two going to some part on the right hand side of the block. do i take out all of this lot, and the airbox and the isv ( heard people of running idle fine without one) where does the fuel come from to feed my new injectors?

Also will the abf throttle body fit the kr manifold as its nice and clean with some paint details the abf ones is manky! Would i be able to sell the braided fuel lines which ive got on there atm.

ive got a 9a in a mk2 gti 16v 88

hope that makes some sense !

You're just going to need the feed and return to the bay.

You can't retain the KR throttlebody as it has no potentiometer, the 9A ha one IIRC, but using a pair of butterflies is likely to make mapping more difficult, as it's not going to deliver a linear response.  The ABF TB is a single butterfly, which mounts on a square-ish flange.

You might sell the KR stuff to some K-Jet loving goon.

One is a fuel supply, the other is fuel return

7 pipes, 5 going to injectors then another two going to some part on the right hand side of the block.

4 are for cyl. 1, 2, 3 and 4 injectors, 1 is for the cold start injector, the remaining two lines are for the WUR (supply and return) - this is for cold-start enrichment, you can remove it, but you'll need a blanking plate for the block where it once was.

Ok thanks you two that's cleared that up!

If its the what im thinking about ill use the 2p trick to blank that off.

I was thinking of selling it to you dh  :lipsrsealed:

The kr Tb i know i cant use but as you said the abf tb has a square flange i cant fit that to the kr inlet manifold then can I

Nope - ABF manifold or ITBs for you, sir.

Not sure about this.

I thought it just bolted to the block.

Maybe I'm mistaken?

Either way, the 2p trick is for injector holes (not WUR).

That sucks then !
Im prob confusing myself about the 2p trick, saw it on someones build when they was blanking something off., will my new set up have use of the 5th injector then.

So do i just disconnect the wur and leave it on then?

Also im getting all new gaskets, do i just get original kr gaskets or does the abf manifold require abf gaskets?

do the primarys go into the fuel regulator? is that where i need to extend them from, as atm there at the meterring head? is it simple getting from kjet to digi fuelling?

kr manifold is useable,  just need a throttel body with a TPS that gives a usefull output,

if your going  to tune with speed density pritty much any TPS will do as its just the rate in changing value is used for accseloration enrichment but if you go alpha N the TPS gets more critical and twin butterfly setups can become a pain

as it is the TPS readin and RPM the dictate the amount of fuel injected i there is play in the mech the actual flowing area of the TB for same TPS reading changes that is a PITA

all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Ah ok, im not going alpha n. So from the abf stuff i can chuck out or sell the inlet manifold then ?

Yes the abf TB i've got has ( i hope) a tps
