Boot seal leak.. waranty claim?
« on: 30 August 2010, 17:32 »
Hi folks,

I was giving the Ed30 a wash yesterday when i noticed water leaking into the boot. After searching the forums etc where the sunroof drainage channels were the main cause as well as the air vent in the corner of the boot. However, I checked the boot seal on mine and noticed this:

The car still has 3 months warranty so i was going to go the the stealers today but the service department was shut.
anybody know if the seal can be changed under warranty or is it classed as a wear and tear item?
Can anyone confirm that it needs to be replaced rather than just reattached?

Thanks guys!

Rich

It should just push back on. If it still leaks then you could try and claim on the warranty.

well... took the car to the stealers for them to look at... my Edition 30 badge will be replaced under warranty but the claim for the boot seal was rejected because work had been carried out on one of the panels... fair do's.

They, however, would have been more than happy to charge me £245 to supply and fit a new seal! WTH???

so, has anyone got a part number for a new rubber boot seal and even better, a price as well? Its for a 57 plate 5 door.

I assume some sort of bonding agent is needed as well?

Lastly, anybody have any idea of how much labour is invlolved to remove old seal, clean up old adhesive and install new seal? (im sure VW are trying to have me over with the labour charge!!)

Thanks

Rich
