i've never drove the Edition 30 or the R, but just considering the basics like cost, running costs, comfort and that sort of thing, personally I'd keep the Edition 30. Actually I almost bought second hand Edition 30, the only thing that put me off was it was 3 door instead of 5 door and i really wanted 5.

I think the R is just too expensive for what it is. coupled with the increased running costs and insurance, i couldn't justify the costs to myself. i suppose 4WD on the R would be useful during the winter, but that alone would not make me consider it

the end of the day though, it's your dough, if you fancy the R, fair play to ya, just go for it.

Thanks for the responses all.

Regarding running costs - not too much of a concern as I'm likely to run it through my business. Anything the business doesn't spend the taxman gets (overly simplistic I know) - so where's the incentive to save

Go try the R, if you can find one! It's a great motor. And looks wise, I initially thought it was a little plain when I first saw it in the flesh, but it's really grown on me, and now I'm totally smitten!!!

When I drove it down through France and Italy it was unbelievable how much attention it got. I felt like I was driving a Ferrari. Seriously, people videoing and taking photos etc. Never had a car that had that effect before.

If you don't mind the running costs or the smaller boot, the R is king. Stick with non-black 18" wheels though. O, go for the DSG with it.
