WireZ MK3 16V as requested by Dom
« on: 27 August 2010, 14:37 »
How I bought her two and a half years ago:

Done a fair amount of stuff to her since...

Started with a heated highline interior from my old 16V:

This done for a while but after missing loads of black and blue Colour Concept interiors on ebay I bought a Yellow Colour concept and broke it with the intention of re-coating the centre panels/door cards which I'll prob do before winter:

Yes, yes... its noisy, and completely minted, but not permanent

16v Anni Clocks:

De-Arched, pretty much fully poly bushed, rear axle spacers machined from old stub axles, front 10mm spacers, Bilstein springs/dampers and machine polished:

MKIVed my Anni clocks and have a MK3.5 wheel and MK3.5 switches

I'll post up more cosmetic mods later.

Some breathing mods:

TB also ground and flowed, chipped.

Got one of these for £30:

Nice and OEM quiet.

Hotgolf flywheel as well from 9.5KG down to 5.5KG:

and one of these:

Passat short ratio 3.94 internals rebuilt into an ABF case:

Note to self: I will never rebuild another box as long as I live unless I have the proper tools!

At present with a passenger and a bootfull of luggage it matches a A4 170 TDi up to 85 (gave up at this speed) and empty it will horse an old Astra 1.6 SRi Turbo so it's reasonably nippy!

If I remember right from when I saw it it's a us spec centre console, but I may be wrong!

Looking good  How much of a difference to acceleration did the shorter ratio internals make?

Thanks for the comments folks...  Not at home at the moment so don't have access to all the pics.

Yup @ Dom; it is a US Spec centre console- Cheap as chips on ebay.com (just be carefull with postage) but to everyone - make sure you get the leather gaiter as the plastic one is gash.  Metal bracket can be had from VW UK for about £6 but the PN is at home on my PC.

@ Jimp: It makes a big difference to acceleration.  Airbox, TB, exhaust mods, Hotgolf flywheel (makes a big difference on its own) and a chip will probably only make a few BHP.  In effect its like having another 25-30 brake on tap and for a 4MPG hit on cruising it's well worth it.  I can still easily make 40-41ish mpg on the MFA at 50-60mph and get over 400 miles to a tank.  The ABF should have shipped like that from the factory - not too short at all and makes overtaking a breeze.  Still think it's not quite as nippy as it should be but trying to get to the bottom of it.

Sounds like the new internals are a great mod. I really like the idea, most people ignore stuff like drive ratios. Good thinking :afro:
