Interesting post, Penguin, thanks for sharing. I have always been partial to Michelin tyres - reassuringly expensive, and all that - and I will definitely be getting some PS3s when my Pirellis are shot.

Two German reviews here;

There are other contenders, depending on your priorities (wet/dry/economy/wear)

Well my rubber came in at £120 a corner. The Dunlops were around £20 a corner cheaper but this was only because my local garage was out of stock of the Michelins and had to out-source them for me.

Been out in the dry tonight. My word they are good. Easily worth the £20 a corner.

As an aside, might it be an idea to put a thread like this in the mk6 maintenance and tips section so people can easily find mk6 owners own reviews of rubber? (maybe a poll or something to show general preferences?)

I do thank SteveP if he gets round to reading this post as it was him amongst others that first mentioned the Pilot Sport 3 on this car.

Penguin:
Looking through all the tyre reviews, the Continentals also seem to be ace. Why are they not popular with GTi owners, I wonder?

I think perhaps is the brand image.

Dunlop, Bridgestone and Michelin all have notable motor sport sponsorship.

Apart from that no idea  :undecided:

Another vote for PS3's here.

Having used PS2's on my ED30 and cover a lot of miles on them both on the daily commute and a few trips to the ring, can 100% say the PS3's are a step up.

Wet handling is the biggest area of improvement over the PS2's along with the better rim protection.

I also think for balance between handling, ride, noise and lifespan they simply can't be beaten.

Hi guys,

Anothers thumbs up for PS3’s. They replaced my Conti 2’s on my ED30 at 16,000 (they were shot), difference is night and day.
Expensive but worth the outlay for the extra security and grip + I also got them to stick nitrogen in them for £3 a pop.
Tyre pressures were more stable in the hot summer days.

Great product!

Cheers... Hotrod
