jammed crank after clutch fitment

a sabove the engine wont start after fitting new clutch i fitted a 210 mm sach to my dads cabrio Dx engine code, now the starter is jammed and the crank wont turn, i have a feeling it could be the flywheel as i usd the original one n the end. Any ideas? as its all going to have to come off again tomorrow,

only difference between clutch was the splines were shorter on this one but fittede over gearbox splines fine.

did you align the 2 dowel pins properly? if not the flywheel wouldnt go on all the way. i wonder if you need to change the flywheel, maybe its hitting the bell housing. i hear some early smallblock gearboxes can have issues with later clutches but never heard this about big block boxes. I put MK2 clutch & flyweel in my mk1 cabby with an early MK1 gearbox and it went on no problems.
87 cabby box should be same as a MK2 Golf one anyway actually, whats the box code

As above, the 2 small dowels might not be aligned, meaning that flywheel isn't on all the way, so it fouls on bellhousing.  If this is the case, you should easily be able to see where it's fouling if you take it all apart again! 

Once had to grind away part of a mate's bellhousing when fitting a large clutch to a small-block, but never heard of it being an issue on big-blocks..

all sorted cheers had to strip all down again and yes i hadnt located dowels properly, i used the other flywheel went on straight away, thanks for your help!
