Mk4 Door lock switches

Hi Guys

I'm presently getting that annoying bright red warning light on the dash which says you've left one of your doors open, when their not of course.

I know its one of the door lock switches at fault  but does anyone know a quick way of identifying which one it is without striping each one of the 5 out in turn :cry:

I heard that this is a weakness on these cars is this true? and what do these items cost to replace?

Now that's funny. My warning came on friday - 'luggage compartment' + my alarm keeps going off, and when driving the warning keeps coming and going :angry: :angry: :angry:
Have booked in into the steelers tomorow - they recon it's the boot lock that needs replacing - ?50 fitted - this will hopefully sort it out.
It may not be your door that is making this happen!!!1

on this golf the washer pipe comes loose and leakes water into boot catch u do not need to change the catch but fix the washer pipe properly use a zip clip to secure the pipe and also find the black connector plug on the catch take it of carefully and clean the connector and were it plugs in with wd40 that should cure all ure problems

 I''ll get my grubby hands at the tailgate lock connections and washer pipe and see if I can sort it out

Well just returned from the steelers - was the boot lock - said that water had got in poss. from the rear washer total cost ?107!!!! Not ?50 as quoted - bummer
If only i had read thread above as they have replaced the lock and assoc. items - well if it does it again they can do it for free - b***dy steelers.
Still all is well now - no alarm going off at 3am (hopefully) :smiley:

Well I've taken it apart and................ K reg your spot on!  thats exactly what happened although the switch is definitely rotted / knackered. The hose to the wash / wipe was very loosely connected, and spashed the lock and switch with water :angry:

Water also ran down the wiring loom directly to the switch :rolleyes:. went to German and Swedish and the tailgate lock / switch is ?27.50 +vat so not too bad, but if they'd (VW) fitted a decent hose connection and a rubber boot to the electrical connection this wouldn't have happened.

Bad luck Rob Gti..................... ?107 thats an awful lot of dosh.

Hi
the dash board red "door open" symbol with the message "luggage compartment open" message and a very very annoying "beep" alarm sound kept going off whilst driving. Parked up and after a few minutes car alarm went off (probably 'cause system thought rear door open).  After reading this thread, decided to open up rear door lock and found the wire feeding the lock sensor was dripping with water (and de-icer).  Disconnected plug, red symbol went off and alarm stopped.....

I had to investigate this in the freezing cold as the alarm keeps going off and I am concerned about my neigbhours sleep for the night. Of course such faults only occur on cold winter nights and as I can not feel my fingers I will look at this again in the morning.  As I see it my options are

1. go to very nice VW main dealer and be charged large amounts of cash and be told "if that doesn't work then book it back in and we will look at it again", for free, as you failed to rectify fault in the first place?  I think not!
2. replace lock sensor
3. secure rear wash feeder
4. as this will probably occur again, remove wire that senses door latch.

I will probably go for three and four... However item four may mean boot lights do not come on...
I'll look again in the morning when my hands have warmed up and send another post.

im glad ive stumbled upon this tread as i'm not ahving any beeps or my alarm going off but when i want to wash the rear window no water comes out of the jets could this fix the problem or is it something else

I'm going for option 3, ie fix water leak from washer. 

On closer inspection of the washer pipe I found it was not too well secured.  I have pushed it back on and secured with two more tie-wraps.  Also have re-inserted lock sensor cable and encased it in some heat-shrink to try and keep any future leaks out.   

If your rear wash is not working then I would suggest you remove the plastic cover that hides the wiper motor and go for a visual inspection.  I also noted that there was some de-icer flavoured water at the bottom of the tailgate rubber seal before I took everything apart.

hi all. i am so glad i found this thread. i was just starting to think about going to the stealers! as soon as i get her back from cam belt experience, its off with tailgate interior and have a good snoop round. i have noticed washer fluid in boot lock for a while, but have not put 2 and 2 together as to why the whole streets not been sleeping too well due to f*&%£*g alarm! hopefully this will have saved me a few quid; give me something to do for a few hours and keep us out of the pub. ta
