If i was going to stick plates on i would do it now as removing them if you use the proper tape can be a nightmare as it can pull the paint off too. (Seen it happen at dealers)
Plus it looks old now with a 10 plate  (why im looking at plates  )
Insurance will iirc just charge an admin fee. Then of cause theres the tax disc, V5 etc.

They can drill the holes with the flat bit on a bench. This will not cause deformation as it would when the bumper is in situ.
PITA changing Reg No, I know.

Do you know what? I am so dizzy with joy at present that I thought something had gone wrong as I had lost my 5 star status. Was about to contact the moderator but then remembered one of Steve30's posts informing me of my impending medal status!

You're going to love this!

Well, I had a call from the Warranty Manager who said they are going to fit the painted bumper in their workshop!

So the bumper arrived at VW West London today, then was sent to the body shop for painting today and is to be fitted at the workshop next Wednesday which means that the body shop has to send the painted bumper back to them. For this to happen they would have to give me a courtesy car for a whole day!

Rang the VW Escalation Team in fury and told them that this was ridiculous and they agreed! They are paying for the fitment of the bumper and it does not matter who does it!
The body shop will fit it while I wait and this will take them about 45 mins. This is what I wanted and what I got!

However, the person at the Escalation Team thought the paintwork of the bumper would have to be blended in. Then she gets back to me 15 mins later and says that Technical say this this need not be done as there will always be a slight difference in colour between metal and plastic.

I have made it very clear that I will only let the bodyshop fit and paint the bumper and this is final.  If they gave me any more trouble, I was going to write a further letter to Chris Craft , MD VW.

They caved in immediately!
