mk3 golf 1.4cl - no spark but engine turns
« on: 16 August 2010, 17:44 »
hi there, was wonderin if any body can help me plzzz,. Right i have a 1.4 mk3 golf (4 speed) 1992, the engine turns but i have no spark, i have replaced-

-dizzy cap
-rotory arm
-ht leads
-distrubutor
-ecu

all the above parts are excally the same as the parts i have taken off, but still no joy, so my thoughts then turned to the electrics. i have checked all the wires i can fink ov n the only thing i can find wrong (i think) is on the distrubutor there are 3 wires which plug into it (black, brown + white, and green) now the black wire is live and has voltage threw it, the brown + white wire goes down by the starter motor into an earth, and the green wire goes into the ecu, now the green wire is not live at all, theres no voltage goes threw this wire wen engine is turned or wen ignition is on, should this wire have any voltage at any stage ????????

any body with any help plzzz thanks Dan.

no i haven't bt i can't see it being tha, as i have live to the distributor, n then from the dizzy down the ht lead to the dizzy cap, n then got a live voltage in the dizzy cap from the middle point inside the dizzy cap, but from there the voltage goes dead. The voltage at all these points (distributor, ht lead, n dizzy cap) is 6 volts, this is wen the ignition is on also wen the car is turning over, im thinking wen i try to turn the car over that there sud b mur than 6 volts :S

6v isnt enough it should be 12. makes me wonder if the ign switch has packed in. i take it you checked you have 12v at the battery?
