gti mk2 1.8 8v

i have an chance of one of these its high miles well it is an 18 yo car it has 160k so less than 10k a year which is below average now the car is in very good nick a little rust on drivers door but thats it for rust what should i check for as ive wanted a gti for ages and the minters are far to much money for what they are any help would be great
