Mk3 GTI 16v - 2k Rpm Misfire...
« on: 13 January 2005, 22:43 »
Hi Guys

heres the story, i recently purchased a 95 Mk3 Golf Gti 16v, the evening i test drove the car it was faultless, then the next morning i woke up it wouldnt start. Turns out to be the Coil which was arcing and caused the car to misfire. Well i have replaced the coil and this problem has gone. I now have a misfire at about 2k Rpm, not other problems apart from this, the car seems the run fine, idle isnt great but its just this 2k Rpm problems its very annoying around town and feels like the car is going to kangerroo.

Any ideas, i have read about replacing the ECU relay and Feul pump relay, but im not sure this is the same problem.

Let me know what you guys thinks...

THanks

Dave

OK.. been over to VW today and replaced the fuel pump relay and the ECU relay... Problem still persists, Its like at 2k rpm its just slightly missing, it accellerates hard ok, and cruises ok, just at 2k rpm it slightly misses and feels slightly juddery.

Anyone got any ideas?

Many thanks

Dave

I know you state that the leads are new, but have you checked them, as modern leads are a lot more brittle, so it may well still be a lead even tho they are new, its a quick easy test to do, if only to rule them out for definate.

Best way of checking them???

I'm now being told it could be the Engine speed sensor, have spoken to my local VW dealer and they cant even find one for my car. (Part no?)

any ideas

Dave

Try cleaning out the throttle body and butterflies with carb cleaner

The best way to check your leads is to take them off the plugs one ny one, place a spare plug onto the ht lead, and make sure you are wearing some thick rubber gloves, place the plug next to the cylinder head and have a helpfull friend turn the engine over for you, if it sparks the lead is ok.  Repeat for all 4 leads.

BEWARE THO, THIS IS DANGEROUD YOU MAY GET A WHACK OF HIGH TENSION ELECTRIC, SO WEAR SUITABLE GLOVES TIO AVOID.
