Rear Wheel Bearings

does any1 know what size socket to take these off i need..
also what torque setting there done up to ??

the hub nuts on the rear stub axle on mk2's with rear discs are no bigger than 24mm for sure, as my socket set only goes up to 24mm  :grin:

when tightening up the new ones, once you've eradicated all slop, you're bearings are tight enough  :tongue: easiest way to check is to leave it jacked up and pop a wheel back on, rock the wheel side to side and top to bottom. dont over-do it though


I don't think a semi will give the same results

Hand-tight is sufficient.

Nip up with the socket attached to a short ratchet, back off till nut is loose, then as Ben says, hand tight is sufficient, refit wheel, and check for excess play, and check that the wheel turns freely

1 last thing for the moment any ideas how tight a knock sensor has to be done up on the engine ??
ive been told 15nm but the haynes book says other wise ?? (had a quick peek in a haynes)

20nm is just a nip over hand tight (depending on lever size), 15-20nm should be fine, the torque isn't critical (like on a head), just enough to stop it falling out.

bit puzzled by that comment do you know what i mean by the knock sensor ?? (on the engine/ just below the alternator)

20nm is just a nip over hand tight (depending on lever size), 15-20nm should be fine, the torque isn't critical (like on a head), just enough to stop it falling out.
