The boot mounting helps reduce tacktile feel due to location.  I have only ever heard one car in the world (it was fully custom built interior and a world sound quality champion) were front mounted subwoofer/s worked correctly due to tactile feel.  Have to remember the cars cabin is not large enough for the wave to be produced fully so it becomes much harder to locate (unless the sub has lots of harmonics or you have the level far too high). Its why its much harder to locate bass in a cars cabin then a large room at home for example.

Not big enough inside to produce the standing wave.

Hmm, I wonder if this one could be made to fit in the fire extinguisher hole?

There is also one by Pioneer you can place inside your spare wheel!

That would be ideal, but I have that compartment divider box thingy in my boot full of clutter and I'd be worried it blocked out much of the bass.

I think I will end up attempting one of those fibre glass custom jobs, if I can source some matching carpet.

I heard the Pioneer sub in the footwell of a BMW whilst I was there at Auto Audio. It was quite a revelation.
Do you have Dynaudio in your car?

Nah, just the stock setup. TBH, it's bassy enough, but I just can't help tweaking my car :embarassed: I should get the bass in my Transit van sorted first, that's really feeble, despite installing bigger Focal speakers in the doors.

The standard set-up is excellent. Very good mid-range and treble. The only problem is the upper-bass resonance from the door mounted speakers, most noticable on classical music. Once the bass is cut using the RNS bass control, the sub can take over and produce good clean bass and upper-bass and release the door speakers to produce even cleaner mid-range.

Focal speakers are very good and made in France. Their high-end Hi-Fi loudspeakers are simply amazing. British designer!

Hi MrP,
Most curious to know how it integrates with the rest of the system.

Warning triangle.

As for the sub, I decided to get the bass on my Transit van sorted first. It's woeful and will also mean I can practise a bit before I think about ripping the GTI's interior to bits. I have ordered this Kenwood sub, as it fits perfectly between the van's front seats:

I will be interested to hear your views on the Pioneer, Steve.
