my cars a smelly!
« on: 13 January 2005, 13:01 »
this morning it was making a funny smell, nothing that i have ever smelt before.
Smelt like it was coming from the cat, but its not your usual eggy smell, smells a little bit like gas!!!!
also i have noticed that the revs on idle is a tiny fraction lower than what it should be, so you can feel it judder slightly, put i have no power loss and drives fine, you think it might just need a tune up??? or do u think my car has pmt lol

Faulty air-con maybe ? I'd try and get the fault codes read if I were you, better safe than sorry

Do mk4s have that little air control where you can specify where the air is circulated, i.e. in the car or from outside ? Don't know the technical name for the switch !  If so have you moved that and then driven past british gas ?
......now officially dubless.

hahaha lol the smell isnt inside the car, its when you get out of it that you can smell it, it smells of strong dangerous gases!!!
had a emissions test not to long ago and everything was spot on.. there is no smoke or lack in power, wonder where ive had new maf and plugs, that it might be running rich or something strange.

The only dangerous gas your car produces is carbon monoxide, but that has no smell, so there's no need to worry about that. Maybe something got spilled on the engine, and the heat is making it evapourate causing the smell.. or could be that a mouse or bird decided to nest in your engine bay one night, and you've now roasted it.. MURDERER !!

might be the CAT i know differnt smells mean something is wrong with it but i thought it was the eggy smell that ment it needed to be replaced maybe its the otherway round :S seeing as you had an emisions test see if you got an older one and compare the reading
