The plastic cover is still available from VW about £20 I think.

It looks like its designed to stop water spraying up from the wheel.

The diesel undertray is a lot more expensive and I don't know if thats still available. I've got one fitted on my 16v but it was on there when I bought the car.

Got on to my local 'Dub dealers today and, fair do's to them, they knew the splash guard I was on about. They're still available but you pay for the privilege. In fact you pay £29.42 for the privilege  Also rang GSF but they say they can't get the guards, they're dealer only. So basically it's £30 to Wolfsburg or a wet P/S belt, unless I can dream up a cheaper alternative. I'll get thinking...

Good point but as people seem to be suggesting that these guards often parted company with the parent vehicle quite early in life, are that many of them going to be knocking around second hand?

Would think so. Ive got 3 golfs at the moment and they all have them fitted. I think that there the same on all models aswell so doesnt have to be the same specific model as yours. I cant see them falling off to easily. More likely removed at the garage and forgotten to be put back on.

Well ultimately it makes no odds whether they reside in the nation's hedgerows or in slack garage's scrap bins. It seems people who want them are not finding them and that includes me. I fancy having a go at making one and if it works and if anyone's interested, I'll make more than one. Then, in exchange for a small donation to my petrol fund, I'll share the splash guard love.

I have just fitted my new wheels and noticed my under tray is only just holding on.
It has 3 studs from the car and only 1 of the nuts is left on mine. Anyone got any idea what size threads these are, I need to sort it soon or it will end up in the hedge like all the others.
Cheers

Just a quick post to say I haven't forgotten about this. Exploritory measuring/tinkering/ar*e scratching and the saying of "hmmm..." have all been taking place!
