2.0 8V Splash Guard
« on: 10 August 2010, 21:34 »
Does anyone know if there is something for sale on the market for the splash guard that prevents the PAS / Auxilary Belts from getting wet? My car did not come with one.............

Cheers

Ah, now this is interesting. I've had the same problem with belt slippage in wet weather on my 16v. I don't know if anyone's tackled this problem before but I do a bit of aluminium panel beating and have considered making a guard for my car. Does anyone reckon there would be any call for replicas if I could design and make something?

I reckon their is money to be made in this!! There are blatently a lot of mk3's out there with exactly the same issue. I have a line of spray up my bonnet from where water hits the belts, i think this has lead to my water pump failing.........

Right, I might just have a little look at it this. Knock up a hammerform, tap tap tap, shouldn't be too mega hard to sort (note famous last words there...)

Do you guys still have the plastic cover that sits to the left (looking at the front of the car) of the PAS pump & belt? I havent had issues in the wet yet.

Ok, bit of market research here. What would people regard as "the right price" for this kind of part? No comedy answers please as I will genuinely need to work out whether this is economically viable. Also any further news on the plastic cover A8vgti refers to would be good. Don't want to go re-inventing the wheel here!

I believe the plastic cover was originally fitted but came off quite easily. Mine was dragging on the floor but tied it back on with cable ties...as A8vgti said, it covers the left of the belts and also underneath them but only slightly.
