I will PM you of what I use.

Sending this post whilst on a very bumpy bus!
I don't need to PM you I will tell you what our paint shop at work told me to use. Just Google Farecla G3 Compound. It very good for scuffs and swirls. The ba****d students at work play football on the car park and we have plenty of cars with scuffs of the ball.

On a bus am1w, does the other half have the car or is it broken?

Again you shouldn't have to do this the dealer should.

Spent 2 hours at the dentist, 6 injections.
Spent 1 hour with a Consultant Surgeon for a steroid injection into my arm joint.
It was a good idea not to drive.
I am also the sole driver of my car.
Was a hell of a day.

Hope this satisfies your natural curiosity.

I am going to try that compound. Bit of a bargain if it is as good as you say.

My DBP GTi is now nearly a year old and there are lots of swirls and stone chips.

I think that with this metallic there is no point being anal about it, just accept that you will get swirls, relax and enjoy the car.

I will have it professionally buffed after the winter months are over.

There were no swirls when it was delivered and that is the way it should be so chase the dealer for a professional valet, wax and polish.
Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

If you talking about Farecla G3 Compound I mensioned then it you Google it you will see a YouTube link. If you search for the same on YouTube there are quite few videos showing how to use it. They show using a buffing mop with water but for small areas just the compound will do.

New MK6 GTI  collected yesterday after trying to collect 2 weeks ago but refused it at the time due to scratches and swirl marks. However I am really dissapointed as collected yesterday and there are scratches (quite a lot and long straight lines) on some panels and loads of swirls marks all over.
It is metallic black so I know will show everything but dealer says its normal and they often have scratches from the factory. They said VW would say it was acceptable if they inspected it.
They mopped it with a special soft polish at the body shop and the bonnet is a lot better but they haven't removed the fine scratches.
You can't see them standing back but can up close (obviously worse in sunlight).
They offered to order another one but would mean another  x months wait (7 this time) and increase in VAT and affect my trade in and whilst they don't detract from the car I can't believe you could collect a new car at this price in this condition.

Has anyone else had this problem? I have bought new cars in the past but never encountered this with a brand new car.

My old ED30 (Steel grey 08 plate) was like that the day I picked it up, I pointed it out to the salesman, got the sales manager to acknowledge it & took it back a few days later where they 'polished' them out but there were 3 really obvious ones on the roof which took some doing, they finally identified the cause as the showroom cleaners running feather mops or something over the cars at night when they were cleaning. (My car was in the showroom for a few days before I took delivery).  All sorted in the end though but having spent £25K it was a bit frustrating.

Black Hole is another product that will mask swirls and a lot of scratches. Remember though it will only mask the defects and these will return with time.
To the OP, there are plenty of "Car Detailers" that will correct your paint so don't be too depressed.

Loads of cars have their paint corrected from new even although they look fine to the human eye.

Get vw to pay for a reputable pro detailer to come & do a full correction at their expense, on their premise. You'll end up with a better looking car than most that way.
Ask in the detailing section here, or have a look over on www.detailingworld.co.uk - which has a section of pro details with pics, you'll be amazed at what can be brought back to life by some of these guys.
