I was starting work at 7am so leaving at 6.30, and at that time it was pretty cold and frozen up. I just boiled the kettle before leaving and poured a bit over the handles :)

+1 dont even need to put boiling water, just warm tap water does the job and won't crack/damage anything.

cold water was enough to sort mine haha, since got some of that VW lock de icer never froze up again after i used that once

Later Mk3's from M/N onwards have strengthened Bows for breaking and clearing ice.

with the handbrake i'd say fun, handled good in the snow, it's just the idiots in there 4x4's who think they're invincible until they stack it into a lamp post  :grin:

I done 60mile commutes when it tipped with snow, biggest problem was being so low, but other than that it was fine.

Handled just fine, but was rolling on standard at the beginning of this year!
Back end steps out nicely in the car parks though ;)

I had a right 'mare last year in mine. I had 2 fights with 2 kerbs and lost twice (badly) in the space of about 10 days! Both massive understeer related incidents at about 5-10mph.
 
I think it's a wheel/tyre thing though. Once I put the standard alloys back on the front it handled way better.
