Whats the mk3 like in winter?
« on: 08 August 2010, 22:11 »
I found the mk1 and mk2 to be good in winter/snow month when used with correct type tyres. The narrow size and cars size/weight prob helps.

Hows the mk3 in winter?
Mk6 GTI  &  Mk1 GTI

did winter in my dropped on its ass gti along with the porker rims and stretched rubber

it handled it very well, and doubled up as a handy snow plow

this pic was from the last batch of snow and a 20 mile drive home, was a bit scary on my street as its steep as fook and very narrow with nobheads parked on the street!

Had one mahoosive tank slapper in the snow last year when I plain and simple got caught out by the conditions, that actually properly frightened me. Also had a stupid 5mph straight on job on some sheet ice but otherwise can't say there have been any real big issues.

On the correct tyres, perfect.
I've used 195/50/15s & 195/45/16 and never got stuck.

Same as any other car, if driven properly

I was running 17's during winter with no probs. If you don't act like a ricer, you won't skid anywhere.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but how did you go about sorting that out? I had similar issues last winter.

Anyone have any tips on how to stop the door rubbers sticking too?

I was starting work at 7am so leaving at 6.30, and at that time it was pretty cold and frozen up. I just boiled the kettle before leaving and poured a bit over the handles :)
