If it was a private sale you will get nothing, he does not need to do a thing.

Not really.  If he has evidence - email - that the seller misled him, then he could take it to the small claims court.  However, probably isn't worth it to be honest  :undecided:

Oh and by the way, that appears to be the stamp of the dealer in the UAE. I am getting a Mk6 from SAMACO who are the VW dealer in Saudi and the base spec is very good.  I checked several things before deciding to purchase one over here as I am probably going to bring the car back with me to the UK even though it is a LHD vehicle as I may again drive in Europe quite often for work anyway.  I checked for fog lights front and rear and headlight washers for the xenons as these are legal requirements and the cars have them over here so thats OK - I'm sure yours does too otherwise Motorpoint could not have imported it.  I also checked the VIN number of the demo car to make sure it was built in Wolfsburg and not South Africa or Brazil or something.

Right hand drive vehicles are illegal in Saudi and the UAE and I am surprised that Motorpoint managed to source a vehicle with a UAE VW dealer stamp on it.  You might want to call Motorpoint and politely ask them.  The only thing that a Gulf spec GTI concerns me about is whether the rust proofing is of the same standard as a UK spec car.  Also, you will notice more open holes (for the Mk5) in the honeycomb plastic that surrounds the foglights to enable greater cooling, plus your intercooler may be a better spec than a UK spec GTI.

Its a got a 'wald' sticker on the back, assume this is a chip?
wher/how am I to check the spec?

From what I know, WALD are a Far Eastern tuner... maybe Malaysian or Japanese and a few cars from those regions - Middle and Far East, have WALD chips.  Oh and yes it is a chip - any google search will confirm that!

Yep on UK cars there is a little button on the drivers door to switch off the internal sensors.
