Rev Counter/Meter
« on: 07 August 2010, 16:14 »
Hi,

Where should the rev counter sit when the car is ideal/stand still, when i put the ignigton on in the morning, its starts around 1.3 and slowly creeps down to 0.7, the car makes a really nice nice at 1.0, when it hits 0.7 the tappet noise kicks in...

Want to know where is ideally should sit? and how do I change it to sit around 1?

The above all changed when I had a flush & oil change!

Off the top of my head 700-800 mark sounds about right. This is the "normal" idle of the car.

I am certain this is similar to a choke on older cars, my car idles just over 1000rpm then drops to 700-800rpm after a couple of minutes.  Does it every time I start the car so not to worried about it.

Normal, it's warming up certain parts of the engine quickly. The idling of the engine can vary.

Well... I can't think of anything the Mk2 (16v) lacked - it was/is the best GTI ever...
