Dynaudio - I was wrong!
« on: 05 August 2010, 12:31 »
I posted a one-liner a couple of weeks back stating I wasn't too impressed with the expensive Dynaudio option I took.

I was wrong!

Even without getting my ears syringed adding a couple of more notches to the volume brings much more of the music out [you'll guess I'm no audiophile] rather than noise; top bit of kit.

In fact, I'm pretty happy with the other options too: reverse cam and folding mirrors [the puddle lights look pretty canny when activated in the dark].

I listened to a live broadcast on Radio 3 of Mahler's 3rd Symphony on my RNS 510.
It sounded absolutely perfect ... brilliant detail, balance, depth, sound stage, attack/dynamics etc etc. I played it pretty loud and there was no distortion of the signal or interference from FM.

So you might still be wrong!

Well...
I think I've got to the bottom of my RCD510/Dynaudio vs RNS510/Dynaudio issue...the RNS needs more bass and mid trim compared to the RCD.
I now have both up a couple of notches beyond what the RCD was at, and I'm back being happy with the sound.

The tonal balance I like is the bass just 1 or 2 notches (it varies) above the 0 position, the mid and treble 2 notches below the 0 position.
It sounds truly brilliant!

Yes I can agree fully with that, I tweaked mine up a couple of notches and it is now totally spot on.

So, all-in-all, we are happy bunnies with and without Dynaudio it seems.

Whats the RCD10 like compared to the Mk5 radio (I had sat nav installed as an option from new)... The Mk5 radio/speakers combo is pretty sh!te in terms of sound quality esp at higher volumes in my opinion and thats coming from someone who is pretty agnostic when it comes to sound quality.

Mk5 is rubbish, the mk6 is far superior in audio.

so let me get this right, that big ass thread about the rcd310 etc being better than the rns510 for sound etc wasnt actually because the rcd310 was better, it was because you numpties dont know how to setup your sh!t correctly ?

Dynaudio speakers due to there large voice coils take a pit of power before they start to come on song. They can also take around 30 hours before they settle in and are also known for their very laid back sound which often does not suit some people idea of sound quality.
