I may sell my 1999 1.8T due to broken gearbox
« on: 05 August 2010, 00:11 »
Hi all, well my gearbox has finaly let go and also the timing belt is due to be replaced in 9k aswell, i was trying to raise the money to get that done but the other night the gearbox went 4th gears gone.

And i'm out of money, for the box and belt to get done, i'm looking at £300 ish for the belt and £200 to £400 + vat for a recon box plus £160 ish fitting.

So i may sell it for £1000. It's highly unlikely it's going to get fixed, the mileage is on 177k and i it's had a top end rebuild and a new k03 turbo at 126k, plus mods green cotton panal filter / drilled air box, custom code stage 1 remap, with 4 bar fuel pressure reg, forge split-r valve, forge turbo intake pipe, scorpion exhaust.

i'm sad i'm in this position but it's the way it is.

I'm in stoke in staffordshire, it would have to be £1k due to the condition of the car, and due to what i've spend on it passed two years, it's probably worth more in parts.

I may get a loan to fix it, but i'm really struggling with being self employed...

I'll stick it in the classifieds if i do sell.

TBH it's probaly worth more to you than anyone else as you know the car.

from my point of view fixing it's easy but selling it afterwards with 177K would be challenge.

be hard to get 1k for this as it is, you are either better off fixing it or breaking it

Well i've just offered it my mate, he's going to have to get back to me rather quick because tomorrow the the weekend i'm going to start stripping the thing.

It's that good i could stick a clock in it with 90k on and you wouldnt know it's covered 177k.

When we had our mk2 it was 11 years old same age as the mk4 that had covered 143k back in 1998 and we paid £2k for it and technicaly when compared to the mk4 it was nackered, even my bro said he couldnt believe how good the mk4 looks.

Shame i'm in this situation, i normaly keep cars until the doors are falling off and the chassis rotten.

If i have to strip this, it feels like i'm stripping a 5 year old car, it's not something which is ready to be stripped.

I seriously hope my friend has it.

Man up and get it repaired if it's had a new turbo and top end rebuild.
