Steamy windows
« on: 10 January 2005, 22:06 »
Hi guys my mk3 8v 3dr is steaming up all the time. Even when its not raining every window in the car steams up, even after an hour of driving. My car has air con and i find that im having to drive around with it on all the time which is then hitting my fuel economy. I have had a look around for water leaks and all carpets are dry and the door seals dont appear to be leaking. If i turn the heater to hot air this usually makes it worse again even after driving for an hour. This is now doing my nut as having the air con on im freezing my nuts off. If anyone has any suggestions go for it as im all ears.
Thanks Paynts

Have you felt the carpets right up in the foot dwells as it sounds like its the heater matrix could be leaking.
I had a problem like this in a Mk2 8 v i had a while back.

Have you tried a new pollen filter, a clogged up pollen filter can cause steamy windows

i have a similar problem actually..

but i dont have a problem once i've been driving more than 10 mins..

i've found turning the heat up and turning on the recirc (to block outside air from coming in) seems to fix the problem *BUT* this is a catch 22... as the best way to get te heater to fire up is to drive.. now.. u cant drive if u cant see sh!t.. so i either find myself driving not being able to see sh!t.. or wiping the screen on the inside.. either way is pants..

i've had all the filters etc replaced recently..

Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

I had the same problem. ?Changing the pollen filter made it much better, but it's still annoying.

I put the Air con on full blast as hot as it will go, not on recirc as if there's moisture in the air in the car, then this will just keep it in. ?Air conditioning also acts as a dehumidifier.

I've found this the quickest way to clear my car.

Once it's clear it does come back if i don't keep the air con running so i find myself using the a/c a lot aswell, although it seems to almost no impact on my mpg, which is nice...
