Diplomats don't need votes.
They are mostly selected from the Civilian Service in this country unlike the US of A.
Er, not quite. In the UK, diplomats are part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In the US, diplomats are part of the Department of State and are appointed rather than elected.
Err, not quite. I did not say anything about elected diplomats from the USA either. The FCO is part of the Civil Service. In the USA, the President can sometimes select the person even if he/she does not belong to the State Department. Favouritism?
