Golf V GTI vs Golf VI GTI - after a while?
« on: 04 August 2010, 15:31 »
Hi

I would like to hear from you guys (or gals) who've made the change from V to VI about your experiences with the VI compared to the V.

I will hunt for a new GTI next year and then it will be the VI instead of my V.

The V have a short number of problems that I would like to know if they've fixed.

First of all it's the overall noise level within the car, it's very high on uneven surfaces which I have to endure. How is this in the VI?

Rattles? The V (at least my -07) have ALOT of rattles. How's the VI?

DCC? Is is worth it? Will it soften the ride even on rough tarmac where the most rattles are produced? Or will it just take care of the low frequency vibrations?

Thanks
Got MSN also if u need to contact me

From ones I've driven, the Mk6 seems a little less raw, more polished in the damping/handling.
I have no squeaks in my Mk6, but then my mates with Mk5s don't either.

ACC is great for pot holed city roads if you put it in Comfort, or really bad back roads...but press on with in in Comfort and the car floats about, lurching and wallowing - not nice.
Great for awful roads though.

Normal is where I have it most - it's pretty good for 90% of driving.

On a decent smooth back road Sport not only firms the chassis up, it makes the steering respond better and makes the rear come into play more...you can throw it about and feel the rear just edging out each time. Good fun...but probably too harsh for poor roads. But if you want to really throw your GTI about, and want it to turn in better and wag it's tail...Sport lets you do it easier.

Mk5 is a fantastic car. The mk6 is just that little bit better in almost every way.

Noise levels are that of a much more luxurious car as is the cabin.

DCC (or is it ACC) is the best option I got with mine. The ride is much smoother in comfort than the mk5 was and when the mood takes you - a harsher ride in sport mode for a bit more fun.

Early minor rattles & squeaks sorted with rubber spray.
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

I Came from an Ed30 to mk6 and its so much more refined and a better cabin, ACC is great to have but DSG is better IMO. Less tyre noise too. MK6 is a big improvement !!

Tiguan quicker than the Golf

Apples and oranges though...
DSG might be great as a gearbox but it's bugger all use for fine tuning the handling and ride!

Being objective, I'd say DSG makes you quicker in a straight line, whereas ACC makes you quicker in the twisties and more comfortable on v poor roads.

I agree, Mk6 has a better cabin.

Both great cars. Thats all I'm saying.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

I love my mk6 but loved my mk5 too. No particular preference between them as they are so similar!
MK6 definately better on fuel though. Slightly nicer dash and upper cabin trim but it's all black so makes the car look very dark inside.
I don't have ACC so can't comment but I find the ride and handling very good. The car would look a bit nicer lowered but as the car drives so well as standard I'm leaving well alone (probably).
So in the end it's all down to ££££££

loved my mk 5 and the mk6 even more. Nicer place to be inside, cracker engine note and doesn't sound like a diesel on tickover ;-)
