16v into mk1/caddy info required
« on: 10 January 2005, 13:25 »
Hi all
Does anybody know where I can find information on swapping a mk2 16v lump into a mk1 golf or caddy???
My mate has a caddy and we have just managed to get hold of a 16v donor vehicle to rob the engine and running gear from.
We are both new to the engine swapping game so want to gather as much info as possible before getting stuck in.
If anybody knows any good sites with info regarding 16v engine swaps into the mk1 shell please let me know.
Or if you have any valuable knowledge yourselves please share it.
My mate wants to fit the mk2 dash so we're assuming the easiest route is to transfer the complete wiring loom from one car to the other?

Cheers
Toby

Hey Paul
I think Clair is fitting the 1.8T which used to be in their mk1.
Probably a whole different ball game but I'm sure there will be some similar obstacles along the way.
The sort of info we are looking out for is the obscure stuff like use driveshafts from such and such vehicle, fuel tank from this, fuel pump from that etc etc.

Best person to ask on here about stuff like that then would probably be Steve (mk1). He's done loads to his mk1, put a 2ltr turbo in and seems to have encountered various probs along the way that he's over come, again maybe a different ball game but he seems to know his stuff, PM him as I dont think he hangs around the chat boards so wont see this thread.

Saw a pretty comprehensive guide for the 16v/mk1 swap on vwvortex some months ago.. trying to find it now, .. needle.. haystack.
