VDO senders
« on: 01 August 2010, 20:34 »
Hey all, wanting to fit the Audi vdo guages (battery, Oil pressue and temp) and was wondering where to get the senders from and which ones to get. I know that the oil sender can cause problems with the MFA if you do not get the correct ones.... anyone know which the correct ones are?

Cheers

with the audi temp gauge you want the blue vdo oil temp sensor, vw might be able to get it or you might have to go to audi direct.
049 919 563 B - oil temperature sender, 1 pin blue, 0-180C - 14.85+VAT

for the pressure one there are a few available, depending on the gauge. ideally you want the dual-pole type sensor, which replaces one of the existing oil pressure warning switches. you need to make sure its the right rating for the gauge, i.e. 0-5bar gauge requires 0-5bar sensor, 0-10bar gauge needs 0-10 sensor. once you get it, read the markings and it will tell you which switch needs to be replaced. if it says something like 0.3bar, it replaces the one on the side of the head, if 1.8bar it replaces the one on the filter housing.

you may not have a spare hole for the oil temp sensor, in this case you will need to get an oil T piece, M10x1 is the thread size you need.  if the car has an mfa oil temp sensor, you could just remove that and fit the vdo one in its place

Thanks rubjonny, sorry if these are daft questions but this is where i get confused (doesn't take too much)

If I were to get the oil temp sensor 049 919 563 B which you describe as one pole, does this mean that I will have to get the t peice so the MFA one will still work? if not, is there a sender which would allow both to work?

For the pressure one the guages are the same as this one

So i'm guessing that its the 5 bar sender i need.

Really appreciate your help rubjonny so to sound like a right dunce here, I can rebuild an engine but when it comes to elecs i'm less than useless

the part number is for the oil temp gauge ;)
the dual pole sensors are for the pressure gauge :)

that gauge is the most common one you'll see in an audi, and yeah its a 0-5bar sensor you'll need. i got mine from the scrappy but you can get em off ebay, though tend to get bidded up unfortunatly

Thanks again Rubjonny,

It must be me being thick as I would've thought i needed a dual sender for the oil temp being as though I have oil the temp on the MFA as well. Also a dual pole for the pressure sender as oil pressure isn't part of the MFA but it obviously flashes on the dash if the oil has run/runing out.

Will start having a look for these now, thanks again!!!!! I am right in thinking that I will need that t peice for the temp sender so I can run the MFA and this vdo, again sorry for being dunce like, I will go and stand in the corner after this post

yeah you want the dual pole pressure sensor because then you can remove one of the std pressure switches and replace it with the vdo pressure sensor.
then you can either replace the mfa sensor with the vdo one, or as you say get a t piece so you can run both sensors from the same hole :)
