DSG

I will be looking to buy an ED30, GTI or R32 in the next few months so I have started looking. I want a DSG but I have noticed that the PRNDS on the dash is vertical on a few cars but on the majority it runs along the bottom. Is there a reason for this (i.e. Imports).

On cars with a hi-line mfd (optional extra or comes as standard with factory satnav) the PRNDS is at the bottom. The standard mid-line mfd is half the screen size and the PRNDS is vertical.
Without traction power is nothing!

Further to the previous post I strongly recommend you make sure you get hi-line.

But... If you are fitting an aftermarket stereo you don't strictly need high-line, it doesn't really offer as much as people say, a bigger diagram of the car when a doors option, and some features like setting the timing for how long lights stay on after car locks etc, which can all be done via VCDS.

In my opinion;

If you are keeping the standard radio, or upgrading to a RNS500 etc, installing bluetooth, hi-line definately worth it.

If you are planning on using an aftermarket stereo/bluetooh, then hi-line is not essential.

What IS essential, is a multifunction steering wheel! :)

I've had a DSG for nearly 4 years, I also fitted an RNS 510, and haven't missed the hi line or multi function wheel.

I used to have RNS510 without MFSW and it was a real pain (and dangerous) to keep looking down to change station or switch to phone/ipod/satnav. Now I have MFSW and it is so much more convenient that I would say it's essential.

That's odd!
I wonder if the sat nav was added to the car i.e. it wasn't speced with it from the factory.

Been retro-fitted at some point, do you have a shark fin at the back or a normal aerial?

you have to do it most other cars, hardly an cars have MFSW!
