retrofitting a GTI SW into a mk6 Golf
« on: 31 July 2010, 18:37 »
I've managed to get my hands on a new GTI steering wheel below to replace my current MFSW. GTI one looks much nicer

Now I have a small problem and need some help please if anyone can?

My current steering wheel has a part in it which I am guessing is acting as a control module or a comm device to a control module as there are wires running from the airbag wiring, that connect to the  MF buttons. See piccy below..

On the GTI wheel I only have a wiring connection from the airbag.

Question - do I need to get another control module or something similar to get the dsg paddles and buttons working?? IF so what do I need?

Any help would be very much appreciated

Don't want to burst your bubble, but what you have bought is not a GTI wheel. There's no red stitching and the chrome inlay at the bottom doesn't say GTI on it. I guess it doesn't really matter, as the shape of the wheel is the same, but if someone sold it to you as a GTI wheel, they've been a bit naughty.

Anyway, hope you manage to get it fitted ok.

 :embarassed: I'm an idiot  :embarassed:

Took the airbag off this morning to check part numbers, etc and noticed that the inside layout was slightly different and there was a socket at the base of the wheel for some wiring to connect to. On further examination I found a very small set of wires tucked away in the bottom of the airbag.  A quick tug and a moment later I connected the wires up and everything is working just fine now  :smug:

You can buy the wheel with either red, black or grey stitching. As I don't have any red stitching inside my car I opted for the black version and as I am not driving a GTI I asked for the GTI inlay to be removed, which is what I got.
