Took the plunge...
« on: 29 July 2010, 21:18 »
... and picked up a 53plate mk4 Golf Gt Tdi 130 3 door in black magic today. Awesome fun toying with people and still getting 45mpg
Spent hours looking at little mods on the cheap so will be sticking my head into ebay for a few weeks to find stuff.
Anybody else from around PO19 postcode? Interested in finding out about software changes ie auto windows down and miles untill empty if they are any good

Ps Hello im new

Welcome mate, very good choice, the 130 tdi is the best one imo, wish i could have found a 130 in my area  :undecided:  First mod should be remap buddy, if you think its fun now wait till you have had that done    Had mine remapped recently and it feels like a different car, is now pushing out around 150bhp mark with 260fpt.

Thanks,
Sounds like a remap is the first thing to be done then
Obviously worried about things like fly wheeel and clutch, what are the signs of clutch and fly wheel being worn/on their last legs?

Min signs will be clutch starting to slip when you boot it in 3rd gear, flywheel will become noisy. You will hear a knocking koise on tickover and get bad vibration through the clutch pedal. Totol cost of flywheel/clutch replacement is around £800 mark.

Think thats normal mate, although try to avoid flooring it in 5th and 6th gear as it puts the clutch/flywheel under alot of strain. Yes i went for the 115pd in the end as one came up near me for a very good price and condition. I had my remap done at gti international show from revo, was £300 for spec 1 remap and included a sps switch, so saved over £250, Car has been transformed, pulls very hard all the way to redline compared to there being no power after 3000rpm before map. Will piss all over a stock 1.8t gti as i discovered last night

If your near Kent I can get clutch/flywheel (sachs) and cambelt & water pump for less than £800!

Had both mine done with not 1 problem.

Remap is a must! I run with a mapped 150 Pd and not much difference at all

My clutch is starting to vibrate when i put the pedal rite down does this mean the clutch and flywheel are starting to fail... Dont get any other vibrations as such and just sounds like a diesel when its on tick-over + the clutch & flywheel was replaced at 90k and its now on 117
