Name of metal section(s) on Mk II
« on: 08 January 2005, 20:05 »
The section where the bonnet rests on which I think is part of the front grill, is that all one part or different parts?

I have had a look at it today and I think its all one thing (plastic grill with holes for all 4 lights, a red metal strip below the grill and the big metal section that the bonnet clips into).

Anyone know what the names are of these parts as my metal parts (top where the bonnet sits and the red strip below the grill) are both rusty and I wouldn't mind swapping them if they are fairly cheap.

Im guessing this is one (from GSF site):

RADIATOR GRILLE-BLACK/RED? G2 With Grille Lamps 8/87 >7/92?

but does this include the two metal sections I am thiking about?

Thanks

Take a picture and arrow them....?

I dont know what the strip that clips onto the bottom of the grille is called, but i know it doesnt come with the grille from G&S.

Is the other bit black?

I will take a pic tomorrow and post it up to see if it helps.

The other bit is black, if you open the bonnet and look down (into the engine bay) its the big black metal section that goes across the car and the bonnect clips into and sits on when shut.

Can you get that other metal bit, it does look like its parts of the grill but maybe you have to buy it seperatly from the placcy grill section?

no the metal section is called the 'slam panel' to be honest unless its shagged just take it off re-rust proof it and paint it then it will be ok. same with the bit underneath the grill. try sanding them and repaintiong them

i wouldnt get gsf ones trust me they rust quicker and the fit isnt quite so good. you would be better off redoing your one or getting one from a scrappy and painting that if yours is sh!t

get a new one and chrome it!!! or get a gsf one and have it powder coated, shouldn't cost much at all. or as we've said, clean up your old one and get out the hammerite!
