8v is great to drive in town and enough for motor ways, with modern speed limits and traffic enforcement is there any point owning a "fast car"? i had a 16v and 8v mk2 astra gte and the 16v was a c**t to drive in traffic, so when i was lookin 4 a golf i got an 8v.

Mmmm Chilli Red VR6 FTW!!!!!   :smug: :nerd:

Nothing wrong with the 8v just limited on upgrading the power. I saw an 8v turbo in a mag once and that could only produce 170bhp although it did have 300lb of torque!! Good car to get used to the way the car drives and handles before upgrading to a 16v or like me a VR6

How much scope for Upgrading is there with an 8v, apart from Induction kit and better exhaust.
Im thinking of getting some good brake disks as well.

As there standard around 115Bhp decent exhaust & induction be looking at around 120Bhp? - Without spending loads on a turbo :D
Could they be remapped?

Just look after it and service it regularly and the bhp will stay pretty good. My bulk standard 8v was running 124.5 when I took it to R Tech last year.   Another way to get it running a bit better is to drill the airbox. Do a search on here for details on how to do it.

Induction kit and exhaust is more likely to give you 2-3 bhp max, 'port and polished throttle body, another 2-3bhp. A sports cam are about £200-£300 and could give you up to an extra 20-25bhp, Khares old 8v engine was pushing 137bhp with a sports cam.
Then its stuff like lightened flywheel an light weight crank pulleys for better throttle response
