The Dunlops are a very strong tyre, you must have it that hole pritty hard to get the tyre like that. Glad your alloy is ok , but get your ball joints checked too!! I have dunlops on mine also hit a couple of pot holes recently but no damage done thank god!

I have to disagree here. The dunflops have a very weak side wall in my experience. Not suprised if I am honest.

Speed was about 45-50, didn't seem like a bad impact, I have had worse and got away with it.

Going to stick a couple of Michelin PS3s on, had the PS2s on the last car and was impressed with them..
Mk6 GTI 3dr | DSG | Tornado Red | 18" Monza 2 | LED Xenons | RNS510 | Bluetooth | Smoked LED tails | Cruise | Reversing Camera | TPMS | - now sold :(

You must have given it a hell of a whack to snap the steel reinforcing and egg the tyre! Might be an idea to have the steering and suspension checked over.

You don't have to snap the metal...all you need to do it deflect the sidewall enough to partially rupture the layers, letting air from inside get between the layers - as it has in this case.

I had exactly the same the winter before last - scrap tyre time!

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

I don't suppose any of the MK6 owners need new tyres yet [unless you've had a puncture or hit a pothole] But has anyone used Pirelli P Zero's? Jason Plato reckons they are the best tyres around [for what that's worth, probably a lot actually]
