Any pics of the GTi spec chin spoiler mate?
Thanks Alec, I'll look under the centre caps and write down all I can see!
Would be nice to know what the wheels are! Are they not the same as yours then Alec?

Similar to mine yeah but they don't look as deep, could be off a BMW e30 or even an old vauxhall. I know the RA's look almost identical to some nova and astra wheels.

I didn't have a chance to look under the centre cap but I will at some point today and write down the code etc thats under there. Makes sense they'd be E30 alloys though.... Only paid £180 for the lot in near spotless condition with nearly brand new tyres!

I would say vauxhall wheels as I have e30 wheels and behind the centres it says bmw on them as well as bbs I think.

Still need to check this mate and was going to do it on my break at work today, but I noticed a knocking noise from the engine which is worrying me a bit, I've posted in the Garage and link below incase anyone has any ideas. So scared the engines on its way out :( Hopefully it's something minor though.

great looking car. just skim read through (looked at all the pics though!)

a cheap upgrade that will make a difference visually would be a gti spec chin spoiler for the front. it will bolt straight on and pattern ones are about £25 from GSF

also was there some confusion over the wheels? they are off a corrado. they came standard on my mate's g60. only the vr6 had 5 stud hubs.

They look similar but I don't think they are as wide. Mine are off a corrado, the faces of the spokes sit a bit deeper and are flat. The ones on the op's golf are about level with the rim and have a curve.

BiGUKG what code is stamped under the centre caps? G60's should have 191 601 025 AA

Mine are 6 & 1/2 J X 15H2 ET33 with 195/50's

oops. just amended my post.

as for the gti chin spoiler, have a look at my project thread - there's plenty of pics of my car with the spoiler vivible (although off colour ans STILL not fitted preperly!

Well - I still havent checked under the centre caps, got massive problems with it now

Went from never missing a beat since I've had it, to being a total pig all day. Started with the knocking noise, which isn't very loud or frequent but loud enough to cause concern. Some have suggested it might be big end bearings but looking at videos of cars with the same problem on youtube I'm not so sure because the knock mine has is so different.

Not that I can video it or ask anyone to look at it at the moment, since the alarm has decided to permanently immobilise the engine, set or un-set. Total pig. So it isn't going anywhere at the moment, until I find out / work out how to reset the alarm, THEN get this problem sorted. Could be off the road until next week the way it's going.  :embarassed:

I don't think the wheels are the old Vauxhall type as i've got these on my car, very similar to the RA's, just waiting to get my re-furbed RA's on.

Good luck sorting the knocking out, my wifes mini had a knocking noise and it turned out to be a faulty clutch plate.

That's interesting. The thurst bearing has gone on the clutch so it may well be on its way out. If thats a wear and tear issue? It doesn't seem as aggresive as videos of big end bearing going I've seen on youtube but that's the only thing making me think it's not that atm.

Thanks mate, and it's a scorpion alarm - needs resetting badly! I have found some quites on the internet about it so I'll have a crack at it tomorrow, if I can just get the alarm reset tomorrow me and my step dad can have a proper look at it Friday when we were due to do an oil change anyway and see if we can get to the bottom of it. I was also planning on getting a clutch kit for it tomorrow too so I'll see if the fiancee will still take me to get that, and I'll get that fitted ASAP too! We'll get there, just hope its before Monday really. Got tomorrow and Friday off work so wish me luck!!

Is the knocking noise almost metallic and a little hollow sounding? Just wondering if it might be the clutch if you say you've got issues with it.
