Woke up this morning.................

To find that my upper rear brake light has fallen out from the spoiler (No joke,i could not believe my eyes) now having got the old unit out,i have noticed that i do not have the the fixings on the spoiler to which i can attach the new unit to when i get it,i have looked at the thread in the Tips section and pic 7 shows one of the fixings on the left side of the spoiler...

Question im asking is wether the new unit comes with the fixings or will i have to buy them seperate,if so what the hell would they be called ?

This is the bit thats left in when you 'rip' the old unit out, the bit you are seeing in that picture used to be inside the light unit and is what the screw from the back of the spoiler tightens into.  Its a stupid design and its why VW say you cant replace the light without taking the spoiler off.  The replacement unit will have this integrated into it but of course you cant put the screws in.  If you were to follow my method you just slide that up out of the slot and discard.

Must be about a year since I did this repair and all I did was connect up the cable, then push the light into the housing, it snaps into place and even a year on is absolutely rock solid.  HTH

I doubt it, the unit is sealed, just not very well!

That's the pic mate,i do not have either of the the little metal bits....

Since yours wasn't ripped out, it wouldn't look like that, those metal bits will still be inside the light unit.  Sounds like someone has already repaired that light using a similar method to mine but the clips alone haven't been enough to hold it in

Someone at some point has defo had a bash at the light at some stage,both ends of the light where these fixings should be are broken hence why it was stuck in via a piece of double sided tape which has been placed on the top of the light.......

The new light should just snap into place with no need for any other fixings ...
