I've just done this on my Mk3 inside cv boot. All is pretty straight forward, especially if as previously mentioned you can get someone to put the brakes on whilst undoing the 6 bolts on the joint. You will also need a good breaker bar and socket to undo the driveshaft bolt (my old socket snapped on the first attempt).
The Haynes manual says that the driveshaft should then tap out with a soft mallet, however, mine needed pushing all the way with a hub puller so be prepared.
Whilst you at it you may as well do both ends for the few quid they cost.
