Jetseal on bumper/trims
« on: 22 July 2010, 14:22 »
Hey guys,
I stupidly never taped up the trims & bumpers before applying jetseal & it's pretty subborn stuff to remove. Any suggestions on how to remove this?

Thanks

did you buff it off? or did you leave it and not buff it like you did on your paintwork?

thing is... jetseal 109 is designed to bond with surfaces... I think your best bet would be to try some kind of degreaser/apc applied on a microfibre and if necessary worked in with a brush.

i'd not tried JS109 on bumpers before... have applied it to just about everything else!

Thanks Guy,
Yeah I buffed it off same as I did with the paintwork but the jetseal is stuck in the veins of the plastic. I did try a good degreaser & microfibre but didn't take much off. Also tried a splash of petrol but to no avail. Think I will try the brush as you suggested as this should get right into it

also not that keen on the jetseal but I know loads of you guys rate it 5****, any thoughts on this as I can't seem to find any benefit using it

yep prepare for battle as 109 is durable stuff and is a mega pain to remove from bumpers.

jetseal is a sealant which forms a uv resident barrier, sealants generally dont add much gloss like carnauba waxes do, they give a more reflective glassy finish compared to a wet glossy finish from wax.
the benefit from using it is your paint is protected from uv damage, contaminents bonding to it etc

if your looking for a very glossy wet look! prep your paint well then apply jetseal x2 layers then top it with a soft wax.

I tried jetseal on my dads car 1st, gave his car a good claying etc first. Was running out of time so I only got a chance to apply the jetseal but no wax. After a month or so my dads car was covered in tarspots. I assumed that with jetseal on these would be really easy to remove but I was wrong lol, they were a nightmare!!
So for me it doesn't keep out all contaminants, wax does a much better job IMO but I know wax would do nothing for uv protection

wax does protect from uv because thats its purpose from the palm it comes from, the carnauba palm releases wax from within the plant and coats its leaves in the wax to protect the plant from the sun and rain etc, sealants are man made ie synthetic. jetseal is a great product, tar spots will stick to anything due to the nature of it being oily/sticky, putting jetseal on a car doesnt ensure easy removel by any means but it does ensure it doesnt come into contact with the paint because of the barrier it produces when applyed.
jetseal 109 is one of the top sealants in the industry and has been for years, new sealants are coming out all the time, some good and some not so good, jetseal still out-performs many sealants and is one of the easiest to apply/buff off. its very good for wheels too.
