Fitting K&N Air Filter to MK3
« on: 21 July 2010, 23:28 »
Basically, just got myself a nice standard MK3 1.4 CL.
I want to sort myself out with a tidy little K&N air filter but i have no clue what to buy and where im fitting the thing.
My speciality is sound systems and electrics so im a lost soul in this department and could do with a push in the right direction!

THANKSSSSS

panel filter from somewhere like venom motorsport. Open airbox, pop in new filter shut her up, instant 230bhp*

*Results vary.

Theres a thread somewhere in the maintenance section with dyno tests etc on the different filters induction systems and standard air box. I think the best results came from a standard airbox with holes drilled in it to increase air flow. theres a guide on how to do that in the maintenance section somewhere as well :P

Yes but that's the airbox on a bigger engine, where it's located near the wing. On the 1.4 it's on top of the engine, drilling holes means heatsoak which mean cold air. K&N panel filter and leave it at that, you may put a cold air feed to the airbox though.

mines on the side by the wing. Might be because it's an early one? 94

mines from 95 and the airbox is on the left by the wing too.

so will a K&N give it a nice buzz sound when i put my foot down? cus i want it to make a tiny bit of extra noise but im not a fan of these massive exhausts

K&N panel filter will make the same noise as a standard filter (I think), people say you get a sportier noise from induction kits, but tbh I cant tell the difference
Exhaust systems like jetex and magnex are nice, they sound pretty standard at normal driving and only get louder when you boot it. They also cost quite a bit though :) but then again so does a decent induction kit, I've used cone filters before and I think the only affect you get is placebo
